Holidays with dog in South Tyrol

Marvellous vacation days with your four-legged friend

Spend an exciting holiday with your dog in the invigorating and untouched nature of South Tyrol. Exciting vacation days with your four-legged friend await you in the pristine mountains of South Tyrol.

When your dog jumps happily over the tree roots in spring, sniffs at a butterfly, drinks fresh mountain spring water, quietly enjoys the warmth in summer and autumn, or waddles through the first snow in winter and playfully tries to catch the snowflakes, then your holiday will be an unforgettable experience.

Dogs in the hotel

For dog owners, their four-legged companion is often a full member of the family, so the loyal companion will certainly accompany them during the best weeks of the year. Your four-legged friend is very welcome here, so it will of course also have a place in your room.

The mountains of South Tyrol, with their endless network of hiking and biking trails, are perfect for a holiday with your four-legged friend. However, pets are not always welcome and finding a suitable holiday accommodation with a dog can sometimes turn out to be a time-consuming affair. Dogs are welcome guests at the Pension Sonnenhof. A variety of wonderful excursion destinations and unspoilt alpine pastures and valleys in the area around Maranza invite you to spend time outdoors. Hikes with your dog will take you into the idyllic Altafossa Valley, to the beautifully situated Fane Alm and into the ski and alpine region Gitschberg Val Giovo. Rustic inns with large sun terraces invite you to take a break along the way and your four-legged companions can quench their thirst at one of the many crystal-clear mountain streams. This way you won’t have to carry a supply of drinking water for your dog. Very fit dogs may accompany you on a bike tour in the Isarco Valley or Pusteria Valley, and for older dogs and short-legged breeds there are a variety of walking trails on the Maranza Plateau.

Legal regulations

Please note:

To ensure that your holiday with your dog in Maranza/South Tyrol is not spoiled by any inconveniences, we would like to draw your attention to the legal regulations regarding your dog. In Italy/South Tyrol there is a law for keeping your dop on a leash (since 2009). When using public cable cars, buses and trains, dogs must be kept on a leash and muzzled. Fines are issued.

Dogs are allowed on the cable cars to Mount Gitschberg and Val Giovo free of charge and without a muzzle. Otherwise, all dogs over 10 kg that walk by themselves and are not carried in a dog basket must pay for public transport.

We offer a mobility card for your dog for € 7 per day, which allows you to use all public cable cars, trains, and buses throughout South Tyrol free of charge.

Take care when hiking…

…on the alpine pastures

Since there have been several serious accidents involving dogs and cows, we would like to remind all dog owners that they must keep their dog on a leash when hiking on the alpine pastures. Please do not walk across the fenced meadows! If it is impossible to avoid crossing a meadow, make sure that your dog is on a leash. This way, everyone can enjoy beautiful hiking days without any unnecessary incidents.
